ZevenOS-Neptune 3.0 Combines Debian Wheezy and KDE 4.10.1

ZevenOS-Neptune, a Linux operating system based fully upon Debian Testing, except for a newer kernel and some drivers, has just reached version 3.0.

ZevenOS-Neptune 3.0 has been dubbed “Brotkasten” and was finally launched after a flurry of development versions.

“This release features the linux kernel 3.8.4 and is exclusively meant to run on 64bit CPUs. We switched the Debian base from testing to wheezy to provide a more stable and better experience. The KDE Plasma Desktop ships with version 4.10.1.

“Chromium was updated to version 25, Icedove to version 10.0.12ESR, Gimp 2.8.2, Kdenlive 0.9.4, Amarok 2.7, VLC 2.0.5. We ship with the latest and greates multimedia codecs preinstalled aswell, and the flashplayer.

For wireless diagnosis we ship Wireshark, Aircrack-ng and kismon,” reads the official announcement.

ZevenOS-3-0-Combines-Debian-Wheezy-and-KDE-4-10-1-2The truth of the matter is that there are very few Debian-based (Wheezy) distributions out there that make use of KDE, and this one seems to provide a good blend of the two.

Highlights of ZevenOS-Neptune 3.0 “Brotkasten”:

• The Neptune Installer now comes with a summary page, that allows users to get an installation summary and to change the language and localization of the operating system.
• The competition proposed for the creation of Kdenlive title templates has generated a lot of content, and the results have been implemented;
• The ZevenOS-Hardwaremanager was updated;
• A new default launcher menu has been integrated and users can now open new applications more easily;
• This is a 64-bit release only and users will need a 64-bit capable CPU to run Neptune 3.0;
• KDE SC 4.10.1 has been implemented, along with a customized notification center;
• Pulseaudio has been removed;
• LibreOffice was updated to version 3.5.4;
• ppapi-flashplayer has been added for a better flash experience.
